Description of
Effort:
In January 2000, the Government Electronics & Information Technology
Association (GEIA) launched a standardization project, in partnership with
the Department of Defense and several industry participants, to develop
a new configuration management (CM) data exchange and interoperability standard.
The proposed ANSI/EIA-836 standard includes a CM data element dictionary
and reference schema, and a set of XML schemas and XML document templates
for CM business objects. The standard has a configuration management focus,
specifically with respect to the transfer of controlled information and data
required to perform CM functions throughout a product's life cycle. It provides
fundamental reference information to facilitate CM data exchange and interoperability
regardless of specific data encoding and transport methods.
Major Participants:
Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology,
and Logistics; US Army Material Command; Government Electronics & Information
Technology Association (GEIA); Aerospace Industries Association(AIA); PLCS
Inc.; Lockheed Martin; Boeing; Raytheon; Northrop Grumman; and other GEIA
member organizations.
Types of people
they would like to get involved:
People involved/interested in B2B electronic exchange and interoperability
of configuration management (CM) data, and/or harmonization of CM data terms,
definitions, information models, and XML vocabularies.
