Description of
Effort:
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) uses XML standards to enable scientists
to exchange data and share analytical tools available via the web at LANL.
The databases at all the sites are combined in an XML file at LANL where
they can be viewed from any world wide web site via a browser. The analytical
tools that use this XML data set are computational programs which in some
cases use advanced versions of XML technology. LANL is developing DTDs for
general genomic data and for genomic signature data and is designing an XML
tool to help genomic researchers locate chemical pathway information in genetic
data stored in LANL's XML files. LANL's projects are harnessing the full
power of XML for interoperability and building semantic networks as genomic
research tools.
