Description of Effort:

The European Patent Office, the Japan Patent Office, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, jointly develop XML DTDs and other resources required for electronic filing, processing, and exchange of patent documents.

Participants:

The Trilateral Offices (European Patent Office, Japan Patent Office, U.S. Patent & Trademark Office) have been coordinating their IT projects for more than 15 years.  WIPO has been included in the past several years as electronic filing has become the major focus of work.
