Protect and promote the nation's documentary heritage. 1.1 Information Management Governance Explore the future of Federal information management governance, perhaps including the establishment of an “umbrella” leadership group for all IM associations. 2Advice and AssistanceProvides Advice and Assistance to executive, legislative and judicial agencies and other federal entities charged with oversight of federal information and records management including, but not limited to: the National Archives and Records Administration; the CIO Council; the Office of Management and Budget; the Government Accountability Office; The Office of Personnel Management; the National Institute for Standards and Technology; and the General Services Administration. 2.1 Legislative Task Force Form a legislative taskforce to suggest statutory changes. 3ForumProvide a forum to advance professional knowledge and techniques through educational programs, workshops, seminars, and by exchanging experiences, approaches and essential ideas related to the evolving federal information enterprise initiatives and policies. 3.1 Fall 2008 Forum Conduct a forum entitled "Our Public Record: Next Generations" at the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on September 24, 2008 John Paul Deley Forum Manager Tim Sprehe Speaker Coordinator and Forum Moderator Carol Brock Facilities Coordinator The forum was conducted at the Government Accountability Office (GAO). Five issues that were identified for follow up include: 1) The Future of Federal Information Management Governance (An “umbrella” leadership group for all IM associations); 2) A single calendar for all federal information management related events; 3) Legislative Taskforce for suggesting statutory changes; 4) Methodology for putting together regular collaborative training opportunities; and 5) “Casual Brown Bag” professional information sharing. Each of those items has been captured as a potential objective for pursuit by FIRM. 3.2 Event Calendar Establish a single calendar for all federal information management related events. Panel 1 - Background on how federal information management business processes evolved to where we are today - technologically, legislatively, administratively, etc... panelists will include, but not be limited to those with "perspective" on: federal libraries, federal archives and publication depositories, and public sector records access specialists (research librarians or FOIA). What have been the "challenges"? What have we learned as a community from addressing those "challenges"? ETC... Panel 2 - The "what comes next" - emerging legislative landscape.... how can we work together to simplify federal information governance and infrastructure to make it more citizen-centric. Panelists will include, but not be limited to those with perspectives on open government, web management, electronic records preservation and bibliographic control and the role of CIO's. What efforts will unify our diverse community to accomplish some common objectives? What shared goals and values need to be reflected in "enforcable standards"?
